Description

During the time of the Buddha, there was an extremely wealthy brahmin named Mahasala. When his four sons got married, he distributed half of his wealth among them and started living separately along with his wife. After a few years when his wife passed away, he started living with his sons. They looked after him well for some time. Then they pressured him into distributing his remaining wealth among them. But now that he had no wealth, they started looking upon him as a burden. They drove him out. He became homeless. He lived begging for food from house to house. One day he went to Lord Buddha in the Jetavana monastery. The Buddha recognized him and asked him the cause of his destitute condition. The brahmin related his unfortunate story. The Buddha compassionately gave him a solution, following which his sons once again started looking after him.
