Description
Now the atmosphere had calmed down. The cool light of the full moon night of Vesākha illumined the atmosphere. The Bodhisatva was engrossed in meditation. He was in search of that which is beyond the field of mind and matter; that which is constant and unchanging; where there is no birth, no death. How to experience that stage? What method should be adopted? Constantly searching for it, he experienced the bodily sensations. Vipassana arose. Watching these sensations with equanimity, he attained the stage that he was searching for. This was the full enlightenment of the Bodhisatva. Developing his pāramīs for several aeons, he succeeded in achieving what he wanted to achieve. The Bodhisatva became a Perfectly Enlightened One (Samma Sambuddha). All his defilements of craving, aversion and ignorance got destroyed. Therefore he came to be known as Bhagavāna, that is, one who has destroyed craving, aversion and ignorance.
