Description
When the Buddha arrived in Kosambi at the invitation of the merchants of that city, Magandiya was not happy. She was still harboring animosity towards the Buddha because he had insulted her beauty. She hired hooligans from the city to abuse him. They were told to shower abuses on the Buddha and his followers in this manner: “You are a thief. You are an idiot. You are an ignorant fool. You are a camel. You are a bullock. You are a donkey. You live in hell. You are an animal. There is no good rebirth for you. You are going to hell.” The Buddha taught Vipassana to his followers and taught them to maintain equanimity in unpleasant situations. The Buddha practised as he taught. He remained unaffected by these abuses. However, Magandiya became increasingly angry and that led to her destruction.
