Description

A great sacrifice was organized at wealthy Kutadanta’s place at Khanumat. It so happened that Lord Buddha also reached the place at the same time. Kutadanta met the Buddha and asked him about the pure sacrifices performed in earlier times. From what the Buddha explained to him, he realized that animal sacrifice was against the Dhamma. Especially cow sacrifice. Therefore he released the numerous animals he had collected for sacrifice and with great love said that they would feed on green grass from now on and would drink cool water. After performing this good deed he took refuge in the Buddha as a layman. He engaged himself in the noble sacrifice of Vipassana which includes Sila, Samadhi and Panna. The Brahmin Kutadanta became blessed.
